Why are you seeking this office?
I'm running because I'm tired of endless studies and useless proclamations. I'm running because I want to merge progressive values, a strong economy, and pragmatic leadership to get things done.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My number one priority is strengthening our local economy and building the infrastructure we need to ensure a robust economy, a high quality of life, and address climate change.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I want to build sensible, reliable multi-modal transit and make Vision Zero more than a slogan. We need to implement changes and build infrastructure that makes walking and biking in the county easy and safe.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
As the executive director of Manna Food Center, Neediest Kids, Low Vision Information Center, and Friends of White Flint, I have a proven history of delivering results while stretching limited dollars. Over my 4-decade career in the nonprofit world, I learned that if you want to improve anything and meet our challenges, we must bring all sectors of our community together -- residents, businesses, schools, government, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based organizations.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Sometimes you just have to jump off the cliff and build your parachute on the way down.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I'm a lifelong resident of District 4. I went to Woodward High School and my two children attended MCPS. When I was growing up, a family could have a middle-class lifestyle on a single government salary. When I was raising my children, we needed two good incomes to have that same lifestyle. Now families need three incomes, but we only have two parents. We must make Montgomery County more affordable and more liveable so our adult children can find homes they can afford and jobs they can walk to in a county they can call home.
