Bethesda High-Rise Apartment Evacuated By Gas Odor

BREAKING: Several floors of the Bethesda Place Apartments were evacuated after a report of a natural gas leak Monday night.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County emergency officials say an 11-story Bethesda apartment building has been evacuated because of a possible natural gas leak.

Firefighters have been called to the Bethesda Place Apartments, 7701 Woodmont Ave., to help investigate a gas leak. Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, says a gas odor was reported on several floors of the building.

The entire building was evacuated as firefighters and HazMat crews investigate. Piringer said they found low levels of carbon monoxide in the structure.

Wisconsin Avenue is blocked at East-West Highway because of the fire department response.
