Bike To Work Day 2019: Pit Stops, Hours In Montgomery County
There are numerous pit stops and activities planned to celebrate Bike to Work Day in Montgomery County on May 17.
BETHESDA, MD — Communities across America will be celebrating Bike to Work Day on Friday — and Montgomery County is kicking it into high gear.
The annual celebration encourages bicycling as a healthy and enjoyable form of transportation to work. This year's event will have a total of 115 pit stops throughout the D.C. metro area.
The county's Department of Transportation will host several of the pit stops from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. They are in:

- Downtown Bethesda
- Friendship Heights
- North Bethesda at Pike and Rose
- Rockville Fallsgrove
- Rockville Town Center at Dawson's Market
- Silver Spring at Veterans Plaza
Additional pit stops in Montgomery County include:
- The National Institutes of Health (Building One) in Bethesda
- Rockville Town Square in Rockville
- Sligo Creek Trail in Takoma Park
- Naval Support Activity Bethesda
- The Food and Drug Administration in White Oak
- Kentlands in Gaithersburg (in the morning)
- Old Towne in Gaithersburg (in the afternoon)
- Fallsgrove in Rockville
- Rock Springs Business Park in Bethesda
- acac Fitness & Wellness Center in Germantown

Most pit stops will be open during morning commuting hours. However, a stop in Old Towne Gaithersburg will be open to bicyclists in the afternoon.
At the event, there will be raffles for prizes and a grand prize raffle for a new bike. There will also be refreshments and entertainment at each of the stops hosted by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.
Montgomery County officials are encouraging residents of all skill levels to participate in Bike to Work Day.
"It is a great opportunity for new riders to try bicycle commuting for the first time," said Al Roshdieh, director of Montgomery County's Department of Transportation. "There will be thousands of bicyclists who will be participating this year who have never commuted by bike before."
When participants register, they will be required to choose one pit stop. At that stop, they will get a free t-shirt.
