Bloomingdale's Teams Up with Local Elementary School Students
Employees wrapped up another year of mentoring students.

Last week, Bloomingdale's employees wrapped up another year of mentoring at Viers Mill Elementary School.
During the school year, 16 students were paired with mentors from the Bloomingdale's Chevy Chase store. The program—now in its third year—met twice a month after school. Mentors worked with mentees on a Mentoring USA curriculum focused on diversity, self-esteem and a healthy lifestyle, according to a store statement.
Susan Cannaday, general manager of Chevy Chase's Bloomingdale's store, said that "Bloomingdale's has been a long-standing partner of Mentoring USA and we here in the Chevy Chase store are proud to uphold the mission locally with our partners at Veirs Mill Elementary. The support that Mentoring USA provides with programs such as ours helps create a positive environment for children in our community and helps us as an organization give back to our local areas in a multitude of ways."

"This program is successful because of [the Bloomingdale’s mentor] efforts," Santa Scott, school counselor and Mentoring USA site supervisor at Viers Mill Elementary School, said. "The mentors are a very bright spot in the child’s world," she said.
Bloomingdale’s has partnered with Mentoring USA for more than 15 years. Programs using Bloomingdale’s mentors are in New York, California and Maryland. Mentoring USA is a national provider of one-to-one, site-based mentoring programs to help youth to achieve their potential.
