Popular Cookie Chain Abruptly Shuts Down Nationwide: See MD Impact
The national cookie chain said the closure came after the business faced "significant macro-economic headwinds."
BETHESDA, MD — A popular cookie chain has called it quits after serious business setbacks forced it to close locations nationwide.
Chip City announced the closures Friday and explained that the decision had been made despite efforts to hold off the move.
"Despite extensive efforts to stabilize our business in the face of significant macro-economic headwinds, we have made the very difficult decision to close all of our Chip City locations," reads the announcement.

"We are grateful to our dedicated employees and loyal customers who have supported us for the past 10 years."
Chip City was known for its gooey-centered cookies and rotating menu of offerings. It operated dozens of stores nationwide, having undergone a rapid expansion over the last several years.

In Maryland, Chip City operated out of a Bethesda location at 4939 Elm St. in the Shoppes of Bethesda. The brand also had three bases in Virginia's Arlington and McLean areas.
Seeking to fill the baked goods void, cookie supplier MidnighTreats in Arlington's Ballston Quarter says it will be honoring any Chip City gift cards and coupons through Oct. 14.
"We want to make sure no Cookie Monster goes unserved," reads their announcement.
The business said it's also looking to hire for a variety of job postings at their 4238 Wilson Blvd branch.
