CHEVY CHASE, MD — A Baltimore driver was charged with negligence early Saturday after his SUV reportedly struck two parked Maryland State Police patrol vehicles at the scene of an earlier accident, authorities say. There were no reported injuries.

The accident happened about 5 a.m. when troopers from the Rockville Barrack were on the scene of a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 495 east of Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase. Two troopers investigating the mishap had parked their vehicles on the left shoulder of the highway, authorities say, while State Highway Administration workers assisted with traffic control.

At that point a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Charles Martin of Baltimore skidded as it approached the accident scene. The SUV struck an unoccupied marked State Police vehicle, then collided with a second State Police vehicle that was occupied by a trooper.
