Driver Who Hit 2 Pedestrians In Bethesda Was Using Cellphone: PD

Police say the driver who hit two pedestrians in Bethesda last week was using her cellphone at the time of the accident.

BETHESDA, MD — The Virginia driver who struck two women at a crosswalk in Bethesda last week was on her cellphone at the time of the collision, according to Montgomery County Police. She now faces multiple charges including failure to stop at a pedestrian crosswalk, failure to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision, and reckless driving.

The crash happened at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Middleton Lane on Aug. 16. A police spokesman told Patch that both women were seriously hurt, but could not confirm if their injuries were life-threatening.

Authorities have identified the pedestrians as a 55-year-old woman from Pennsylvania and a 23-year-old woman from Rockville.

It is unclear if the driver was speeding at the time of the accident. The speed limit at that crosswalk is 25 mph, according to police.
