Elderly Chevy Chase Bicyclist Killed on Bethesda Street
An 81-year-old Chevy Chase man was crossing a street on the Capital Crescent Trail when he was reportedly hit by a Bethesda driver, age 78.

BETHESDA, MD — A Chevy Chase man riding a recumbent bike on the Capital Crescent Trail was fatally hit by a car driven by a Bethesda man at an intersection, according to Montgomery County Police.
The accident happened about 11:30 a.m. Monday at Little Falls Parkway and the Capital Crescent Trail, which is located on Little Falls Parkway between the intersections of Arlington Road and Hillandale Road. County police officers, Maryland-National Capital Park Police officers, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the crash site.
Investigators say the three-wheeled recumbent bicycle was ridden by Ned Gaylin, 81, of the 4600 block of Norwood Drive in Chevy Chase. Gaylin was eastbound on the Capital Crescent Trail and was crossing Little Falls Parkway in the area of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2002 Mercedes E320 that was southbound on Little Falls Parkway.

Gaylin was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes was not injured. He is identified as Nils Carl Axel Rudelius, 78, of the 5900 block of Rolston Road in Bethesda.
