Architects are making a difference around the world. Learn about the work of Potomac Valley AIA members creating public buildings in Afghanistan.
Mustafa Ali Nouri, a Potomac Valley AIA architect from Montgomery County, and Francisco Brown,a fellow international architect, will present their work with the International Organization for Migration's Emergency and Development Infrastructure (EDID) program to design and build hundreds of healthcare and education centers across Afghanistan. As Architects for EDID, they deal daily with the complications of working in an active war zone and the efforts of the Taliban to prevent the construction of medical and public facilities. Projects such as the 100 Bed Hospital, three Midwife Training Centers, several Provincial Teachers Training Centers and police academies are exercises in community stabilization. They work with local labor & workers, and train maintenance personnel, both to develop their abilities and reinforce the economy.
