The Sky Around Us

Atmospheric optics are a daily (and sometimes nightly) light show based on a few relatively easy to understand physical principles.   For example, why is the sky blue; why are clouds white, and sunsets orange?  How is a rainbow formed, and what causes halos, sundogs, glories and auroras?  Is a mirage real or imagined?  With some introductory background information about light scattering and refraction, all of these phenomena will be discussed and explained in a 'crash course' on the sky above us.
