Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows

Dr.Melanie Joy, Ph.D., will discuss her book, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows, at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Bethesda, Md., on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7 pm. Dr. Joy is a Harvard-educated psychologist, personal/relationship coach, and professor of psychology and sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.   Dr.Joy is a researcher on carnism, the psychology of eating meat, and has discussed her work on the BBC, NPR, PBS, and ABC Australia. She also wrote the book Strategic Action for Animals. Explaining hidden social and psychological mechanisms, Dr. Joy will reveal how carnism shapes our perception of the meat we eat. Program appropriate for ages 15 and older.
