Former Bethesda Teacher Convicted of Taking Upskirt Photos of Female Students

A former Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School student caught a teacher from Gaithersburg as he took upskirt photos of her.

BETHESDA, MD — A Gaithersburg man who taught at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School has been convicted of taking "upskirt" photos of female students. Todd Scriber, 38, was charged in June with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor for allegedly taking lewd photos of female students without their permission.

Montgomery County Police say the three female victims were Scriber's student, and he took photographs of the girls without their permission. Though the teens were fully clothed at the time, the photos "emphasized various areas of the female anatomy," according to police.

Scriber was found guilty Tuesday of two counts of child sex abuse. He faces up to 25 years in prison on each count when he is sentenced Jan. 24, the state's attorney says.

Scriber was put on leave by Montgomery County Public Schools when the police investigation began in October 2015. He is no longer employed with the school system.

Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office spokesman Ramon Korionoff told Bethesda Magazine Scriber faced the child sex abuse charges because he was a teacher and the girls were in his “care and custody” at the time the incidents occurred.

On Oct. 5, 2015, a 14-year-old girl who was one of Scriber's students reported to police that when she approached Scriber to ask a question about the exam, she noticed that he was holding a cellular phone and appeared to be taking photographs underneath her skirt.

The girl said she jumped back and created distance between Scriber and herself. She then completed the exam and went home and told her family what had occurred. "This student’s report launched an investigation," police said in a statement.

When a detective spoke with Scriber about the incident, he agreed to let the detective look at photos on his phone. While viewing photographs on the phone, the investigator saw pictures of teenage girls who appeared to be in a classroom. "The subject of the photographs was specific areas of the females’ bodies," the police statement said.
