Long-Running Ice Creamery To Close By Month's End

The Sprinkles ice cream shop in Potomac will be permanently closing its doors at the end of the month.

POTOMAC, MD — After decades in the business, the Sprinkles ice cream shop announced Sunday that it will be shuttering operations by the end of the month.

An official closing date has not been released, but the shop said business will come to a close the last week of June.

The ice cream shop has served the community for nearly 40 years, providing locally sourced ingredients and fresh products from its location at 10148 River Road in Potomac.

Organizers behind Sprinkles said they were forced to make the decision "due to constantly rising costs and declining business conditions."

"We love Sprinkles dearly, understand its place in the community, and wish we had a better option," reads a social media post.

"We have been trying for some time to find a way to keep it open, but have reached the point where we simply are not in a position to continue to operate it."

The management team said it would be offering discounted goods to customers in its remaining weeks.

The company also detailed that Playa Bowls would be taking over its location "later this summer."

Until the end of the month, customers can visit Sprinkles from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
