BETHESDA, MD — Two new restaurants will be opening in Westfield Montgomery this fall, following the recent openings of Halfsmoke and Suki Hana.

Malia’s Kitchen and District Falafel, both locally owned and operated, will add to the diverse array of restaurants at the Montgomery County shopping center.

“We are always thrilled to welcome new businesses and restaurants to Westfield Montgomery, but there is something truly special about local, family-run businesses opening here in our center,” Christi Swanson, general manager of Westfield Montgomery, said in a statement Monday.

Malia’s will be located in the dining terrace and will be an expanded version of the Malia’s Kitchen food truck that has served soul food and seafood around the region for the past three years. This will be the Bethesda-based family’s first brick and mortar location.

District Falafel will open in Westlake Crossing, an adjacent retail strip mall facing the main Westfield Montgomery shopping center on Westlake Crossing. This will also be the first brick and mortar location since the food truck of the same name began operating in the D.C. area in 2015. District Falafel will serve traditional Middle Eastern favorites.

“We have strived to curate eateries that are representative of the community around us and Malia’s Kitchen and District Falafel have created such loyal fans with their cuisine — we can’t wait to see what they will bring to Westfield Montgomery,” Swanson said.
