Federal authorities say a 33-year-old man with addresses in Laurel and Burtonsville pretended a romantic in elderly men and women online.

A man with addresses in both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1million from elderly people via online dating services.
Krist Koranteng, 33, who has addresses in Burtonsville and Laurel, was charged in August 2014 with 11 criminal counts, including conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud, according to an Associated Press story on WNEW.
Prosecutors allege Koranteng searched online dating sites for elderly men and women and initiated romantic relationships with them. He then used false stories and promises to convince the victims to give him money via checks and wire transfer.
