Borchert's abstracted seascape paintings on display offer a nostalgic and reminiscent look at simpler times. The paintings created during quarantine times, allude to the artist’s fascination with water along presenting the artist's love for the Big Blue. The paintings present and explore the aspects of longing to a space and time that had become part of a memory. Moreover, the paintings showcase a sense of identity of who the artist is: her hopes, aspirations and dreams. The work also plays on the idea of the visible vs. the invisible. The calm water on the surface vs. the deep dark waters that lurk underneath the surface. The paintings are symbolic of the unpredictability of life along with its mysteries. Furthermore, the paintings are executed through an expressive and a painterly style through strong colors and gestural brush strokes, a trademark of the artist's work. Overall, The paintings are metaphoric of a changing time where a return to art seems to bring much needed peace and tranquility.
