MoCo Man Sentenced In 2022 Baltimore Co. Murder

Keith Brian Russell, a 40-year-old man from Bethesda, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 murder of a man in Dundalk.

BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE, MD — Keith Brian Russell, a 40-year-old man from Bethesda, was found guilty and sentenced to life plus 45 years in prison for a March 2022 murder in Dundalk.

A Wednesday release issued by the office of Scott Shellenberger, the state's attorney for Baltimore County, detailed that Russell was found guilty on March 3.

  • First-degree premeditated murder
  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime or violence

The sentencing is tied to the March 2, 2022, drive-by shooting that occurred on the 1900 block of Ewald Avenue in Dundalk.

Officers with the Baltimore County Police, who had responded to the scene around 2:35 p.m., found 43-year-old Tayvon Scott suffering from fatal gunshot wounds to his back, chest, arms, and legs.

Investigators determined Scott had been shot from both the driver and passenger sides of his car. A .223-caliber rifle and a .45-caliber handgun were used in the shooting.

Police said that neither Russell nor his accomplice had any connection to Scott.

The case proved a collaborative investigation that included the participation of the Baltimore County Police Department, the Baltimore City Police Department, the Howard County Police Department, the Montgomery County Police Department, the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the FBI.
