MoCo Pizzeria Announces Permanent Closure After Death Of Head Chef

BETHESDA, MD — The Alatri Bros. pizzeria announced Thursday that it will permanently close by the end of the week.

The pizzeria has operated from downtown Bethesda, at 4926 Cordell Ave., since taking over the space in 2017. The location previously served as the home of Mia's Pizza.

Owned by the Pietrobono family, brothers Roberto and Riccardo said in a Facebook post that the final day of service at the eatery would be Friday.

"Alatri has been our third concept, and for those who don’t know, the name comes from our parents’ hometown in Italy. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to serve the Bethesda community all these years," reads the post.

"We are deeply grateful for your incredible support, loyal patronage, and the outpouring of kindness you have shown us throughout the decade. Our gratitude runs deep."

"We also want to thank our incredible staff, both current and past. You have been inspiring to work with, and it is because of you that we were able to pay tribute to our ancestral family roots every single day," it added.

The announcement comes a day after the pizzeria held a fundraiser in honor of its longtime chef, Wilber, who died earlier this month. The Alatri Bros. team previously temporarily closed the restaurant following Wilbur's death.

The Pietrobono brothers said the space would be "used for private events and special occasions" until further notice.
