Schools issue alert for Monday, March 2.

Public schools in Montgomery County will be closed Monday, school officials announced Monday morning.

Montgomery County Public Schools are closed today due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings also are canceled. Administrative offices will open two hours late. Day care programs in school buildings may open at 9 a.m.
Due to below-freezing temperatures, the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Monday morning alerting people to the fact that untreated surfaces are icy, particularly sidewalks; in addition, weather officials said that fog could limit visibility to one-quarter mile.

There was 0.25 inch ice accumulation in Fairland and .2 inch in North Potomac, Takoma Park, Poolesville and and Olney Sunday, according to preliminary information provided by the National Weather Service.
Other Schedule Changes
- Montgomery County recreation programs are canceled Monday.
- Montgomery County senior centers are closed Monday. Other recreation centers will open at 10:30 a.m. for drop-in activities.
- Montgomery County trash/recycling pickup will be delayed on Monday. Have materials curbside by 10 a.m.
- Federal agencies in the Washington, D.C., area are opening two hours late with the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.
