Police: Bank Robbery Suspect Had Taxi Waiting for Getaway

Taxi driver was unaware rider had held up Wells Fargo teller, according to Montgomery County Police.

The suspect in a bank robbery planned ahead for a swift getaway by taking a cab to the scene, according to Montgomery County Police.

Cary James, 44, of Orlando, Fla., was arrested Thursday following the incident. He is also suspected in robberies in Falls Church, Va., and Arlington, Va.

On Thursday, James allegedly took a taxi ride to the Wells Fargo on Congressional Lane in Rockville. Police say he passed a note to the teller demanding money.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. James left the branch and got back in the taxi and told the driver to head for Washington, D.C. The taxi driver was unaware of James’ activity.

Officers located the taxi on Old Georgetown Road. Following a traffic stop, James was arrested without incident. The cash was found in the cab, along with items used in the robbery, according to police.
