A Mooney M20J collided with power lines in Gaithersburg late afternoon Sunday. As a result, the damage to Pepco's power transmission left thousands without electricity across the county. The plane was carrying a pilot and a passenger, who were both rescued.

At 5 AM today, Montgomery County Public Schools announced on their website that "MCPS schools and offices remain closed today, Monday, Nov. 28." MCPS food services and childcare programs are unavailable as well.

Although Pepco restored power to all MCPS schools early morning by 4 AM, buildings, heating systems, and water systems need to be inspected for safety and performance today. The county predicts that schools will be able to resume operations tomorrow.
