Thanksgiving, Black Friday Montgomery Co. Mall Hours: Where to Shop

Black Friday is still a thing, but it may not be the big thing it’s been in past years.

Among the stores foregoing Thanksgiving hours are Apple, At Home, Barnes & Noble, Cabela’s, Burlington Coat Factory, Costco, Crate and Barrel, DSW, GameStop, Home Goods, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Nordstrom, Pier 1 Imports, Pottery Barn, Staples, and T.J. Maxx.

Many national chains are open for Thanksgiving hours, including Walgreen’s and Meijer, which will be open all day, and JCPenney, which opens at 3 p.m. Some others are Target, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Kohl’s, Sears, Macy’s, Kmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Office Depot, Gordman’s and Sports Authority

REI is eschewing Black Friday sales, as well as Thanksgiving hours. The chain has stores in Rockville, College Park and Columbia.

Black Friday has traditionally been one of the 5.5 million member consumer cooperative’s 10 busiest days and the chain will no doubt take a fourth-quarter sales hit, but “we think that Black Friday has gotten out of hand,” CEO Jerry Stritzke told CNN Money last month.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday hours at some Montgomery County malls are:

• Lakeforest Mall - Gaithersburg: The mall opens at 6 a.m. Friday; major anchor stores have differing hours on Thanksgiving: Macy’s: Opening Thursday 6 p.m. through Friday 10 p.m.; Lord & Taylor: Opening Thursday 6 p.m. – 12 midnight; Friday 5 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sears: Opening Thursday 6 p.m.–2 a.m.; Friday: 5 a.m.–10 p.m.; JCPenney: Opening Thursday 3 p.m. through Friday 10 p.m.
• Westfield Montgomery – Bethesda: Mall hours are 6 p.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday; hours may vary by store
• Westfield Wheaton: Mall hours are 6 p.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving; 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday; hours may vary by store
• Ellsworth Place - Silver Spring: No hours posted.
