Van Hollen, Edwards Tied In Maryland Senate Race: Polls

An average of recent polls gives Rep. Chris Van Hollen a 1 percentage point lead over Rep. Donna Edwards in the Senate race.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland Democratic candidates Rep. Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Donna Edwards are statistically tied in the race to take over Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski's senate seat, according to an average of the latest polls from NBC4/Marist and The Washington Post/University of Maryland.

According to the polls, the last of which was released on April 12, 2016, Van Hollen could be in front of Edwards by as many as 10 percentage points, or Edwards could be in front of Van Hollen by as many as 8 percentage points, when including the average margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points. The average, not accounting for margin of error, was 42 percent for Van Hollen and 41 percent for Edwards.

Voters can cast their ballots ahead of Maryland’s primary election starting April 14.

The state’s primary will be held April 26; polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.

Early voting in Maryland begins Thursday, April 14, and runs through Thursday, April 21. Polling places are open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. those days.

Races from presidential contests to the state legislature will be on ballots across Maryland.
