Vehicle Crashes Into Electric Power Pole, Causing Fire In Bethesda

A vehicle crashed into an electric power pole in Bethesda, causing a transformer fire and the vehicle to catch fire early Wednesday morning.

BETHESDA, MD — A vehicle crashed into an electric power pole in Bethesda, causing a transformer fire and the vehicle to catch fire early Wednesday morning, according to Montgomery County fire officials.

The crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 5500 block of Goldsboro Rd. near Radnor Rd. in Bethesda.

One person who was injured in the crash was taken to the hospital, WJLA reported.

Firefighters with the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service were able to put out the fire, according to Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for the department.

Goldsboro Road was closed in both directions between River Road and Bradley Boulevard for several hours after the crash, officials said.

Pepco crews arrived on the scene to help with cleanup and electric equipment repairs.
