Weekend Metro Update: Major Work Scheduled for Red Line

Five stations will be closed this weekend as major track work continues.

Metro will be conducting more major track work this weekend on the Red Line. Five stations on the Red Line will be closed as Metro rebuilds track, installs ties, insulates communications cables and renovates platforms. Expect delays if you’re heading into the District. Metro recommends allowing an additional 30 minutes of travel time. Here’s how they’re operating around the track work, according to WMATA:

10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Buses will replace Red Line trains between Glenmont and Fort Totten stations.
  • Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont stations will be closed.
  • Free shuttle buses will operate between Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring, Takoma and Fort Totten.
  • Red Line service will operate normally between Fort Totten and Shady Grove.
  • The last Shady Grove-bound train will depart Fort Totten at 2:51 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 11:51 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Customers using shuttle buses should allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time.

In other interesting Metro news, some stations will be receiving name changes for the June 2012 map:
