Westfield Montgomery To Host 3-Week Celebration Of Local Art, Cultures

Culture Pop, a three-week celebration of the cultures of the Montgomery County community, is coming to Westfield Montgomery in September.

BETHESDA, MD — Culture Pop, a three-week celebration of the cultures and artistry of the Montgomery County community, is coming to Westfield Montgomery mall starting Sept. 16.

The event will feature a live art exhibition curated by No Kings Collective, along with a series of free events, installations and performances. Culture Pop will run from Sept. 16 through Oct. 9, with activities for the whole family.

“Through Culture Pop, we will enliven and activate the center for three weeks with celebrations centered around the cultures and artistry in our community,” Zeina Davis, Westfield Montgomery’s marketing director, said in a statement.

“We will celebrate the rich artistic diversity in our region, both locally and internationally, as well as engage community members through classes, performances, and other opportunities to express and celebrate their own story,” Davis said.

The main feature of the event will be a live art mural spanning more than 100 feet of Nordstrom Court and into Center Court. The mural will be a collaboration between an group of local artists, including Jamilla Okubo, Aniekan Udofia, Christina Wing Chow and Juan Pineda. The mural will wind through the Nordstrom wing to the Center Court.

Artists will begin live painting starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 and will continue for the next three weeks. The Sept. 16 kickoff will include DJ Jerome Baker III.

Other events during the three-week celebration include:

  • Kickoff of Under Armour’s new retail space. Under Armour is offering a premium gift with purchase.
  • Beatbox Dads with Max and Root on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. RSVP link here.
  • Musical Petting Zoo with Bach to Rock Bethesda on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. RSVP here.
  • Retrospective Film Festival Screening of the French film, “Breathless,” In partnership with Alliance Française of Washington on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. All ticket sales go to AFDC. Tickets on sale here. The film is intended for adults.
  • Kid Fest with Koo Koo Kangaroo, Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. Opening act with Beatbox Dads and musical features from Bach to Rock Bethesda. Free dessert for every group from California Pizza Kitchen and Malia’s Kitchen Food Truck onsite through event. Free with a donation of coat or sweater for Interfaith Works.   • Secret Walls, featuring live DJ music and top artists from the area on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. RSVP for a chance to win personalized art by featured artists here.
