Wheaton Carjacking, Chase Ends with Arrest in Arlington
A woman pumping gas at the W Express station in Wheaton was confronted by an armed man, who fled into Arlington before he was arrested.

WHEATON, MD — A Prince George's County man is in jail on charges he carjacked a woman's SUV at a Wheaton gas station, led police on a chase and crashed into another vehicle while fleeing police in Arlington, VA.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department have charged Anthony Eugene Shade, 41, of the 1100 block of Owens Road in Oxon Hill, with a carjacking that occurred about 9 p.m. Monday in Wheaton.
A woman was fueling her SUV at the W Express gas station, 2204 University Blvd. West, when the suspect, later identified as Shade, approached her at the gas pump. Shade gestured that he had a weapon in his pocket and threatened to harm the victim if she did not give him her vehicle, police say. The woman gave Shade the car keys and he drove off in her 2011 Toyota RAV4.

The victim, who was not hurt, called 911 from inside the gas station. A lookout for the carjacked vehicle was immediately broadcast to Montgomery County officers. About 15 minutes after the carjacking was reported, a police officer saw the stolen Toyota traveling southbound on New Hampshire Avenue at University Boulevard East in Langley Park. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Shade refused to stop, police say. Officers pursued Shade as he drove into Arlington County, VA, where he collided with a vehicle in the intersection of Lee Highway and North Highland Street in Arlington.
Shade was arrested at the crash site by Arlington County police officers and taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash. He was later released from the hospital and taken to the Arlington County Detention Center, where he was charged with offenses that occurred in Virginia.

Montgomery County Police obtained an arrest warrant for Shade charging him with carjacking and he is awaiting an extradition hearing.
