Two adults are dead and a child in critical condition after a fire damaged an apartment and caused its roof to collapse, PGFD reported.
LARGO, MD — Two adults died and a child was hospitalized in critical condition after a fire destroyed part of their apartment complex Tuesday around 3:43 a.m.
According to the Prince George's Fire Department, when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found flames erupting through the roof of the three-story multi-family apartment complex known as Northampton Apartment Homes. A second alarm was sounded for assistance. The fire department reported that a man died on the scene and a woman was found dead when firefighters searched the building afterward. The 8-year-old child was inside an apartment and pulled from the blaze.
Fire officials told WTOP that the fire broke out on the third level of the apartment building, possibly on the balcony, and caused the roof to collapse. A neighbor told WTOP that the man who died was the father of the child pulled from the apartment, but his relationship with the boy has not been verified yet. A dog also was found unresponsive and firefighters revived the pet on the scene, the fire department reported.
