School Aide Faces 270 New Charges, Victims List Grows to 23

Deonte Carraway was indicted on 270 counts of sex abuse of a minor and child porn; the number of victims is now at 23, authorities say.

Greenbelt, MD — The former Prince George’s County school aide already facing charges of forcing elementary school students to perform sex acts that he filmed was indicted by a grand jury with 270 new abuse charges reflecting more young victims, according to authorities.

A federal grand jury in March indicted Deonte Carraway, 22, of Glenarden, with 13 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor to produce child pornography, involving 11 minor victims ranging in age from 9 to 12 years old.

He was in U.S. District Court then to enter his not guilty plea on those charges.

On Tuesday, the state’s attorney’s office said Carraway was indicted with the new round of offenses for sex abuse of a minor, sex offenses and child pornography – charges covering 23 victims.

Carraway was an assistant for Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Glenarden and directed the Glenarden Municipal Center choir.

"Court documents say he told children that to be in a 'club' they had to send photos and videos of themselves engaged in sexual acts while alone and while performing sexual acts on other children,” WTOP reports. Carraway threatened, pressured, enticed and/or coerced children, prosecutors say, all while he videotaped the youths on his cellphone, and later shared with the victims via the Kik app.

Carraway remains in custody, reports WJLA. If convicted, he could face more than 100 years in prison.

Police said they found 40 videos Carraway made of children engaging in sex acts at the suspect’s direction.

Carraway faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years in prison followed by up to lifetime of supervised release for each of the 13 counts of production of child pornography.

Families Urged to Call FBI

FBI Special Agent in Charge Kevin Perkins has asked that anyone with information about the case, or other victims, contact authorities.

Call the FBI’s Baltimore office at 800-CALL-FBI or call the Prince George’s County Police at 301-772-4930.

Federal prosecutors would not have to call children to testify to prove the charges of producing child pornography. That will be a factor in determining how Carraway’s case proceeds, authorities said.

A class action lawsuit has been filed by the families of some of Carraway’s victims against the Prince George’s County Board of Education, Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School Principal Michelle Williams and Carraway, says WTOP.
