3 More Suspects Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of 16-Year-Old DuVal HS Student: Police
Three more suspects have been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jayda Medrano-Moore outside DuVal High School.
LANHAM, MD — Three additional suspects have been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jayda Medrano-Moore of Greenbelt outside DuVal High School last September.
Prince George's County Police received a report of a shooting near Palamar Drive and Woodstream Drive in Lanham the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 11. DuVal High School at 9880 Good Luck Road in Lanham and Robert Goddard Middle School at 9850 Good Luck Road in Lanham were on lockdown for about an hour. They found Jayda outside with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed Jayda was walking on Palamar Drive after leaving school when a fight broke out between two groups of people who were involved in an ongoing dispute. During the fight, one of the suspects pulled out a gun. Detectives believe Jayda tried to intervene and break up the fight when she was fatally shot.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy shortly after the fatal shooting in September. On Wednesday, they arrested 18-year-old Ramon Richardson of Lanham, 18-year-old Cameron Anderson of Landover and a 17-year-old boy from Lanham who has been charged as an adult in the incident. Richardson and Anderson have been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. The juvenile suspect has been charged with first-degree murder.
During a September 2023 bond hearing for the first 17-year-old boy arrested in the case, Prince George's County Assistant State's Attorney Bill Porter successfully argued for bail to be denied.

"This young girl was pistol-whipped and the gun was placed to her head and she was shot point blank. We do not feel as though this was an accident," Porter said in court.
The shooter opened fire after “some type of petty beef” between groups of young people, Prince George's Chief of Police Malik Aziz told NBC Washington in September 2023. Medrano-Moore was with her brother at the time.
Jayda was a junior at DuVal High School and a basketball player with a dream of becoming a WNBA player. She was less than two weeks away from her 17th birthday. Her parent, Glendon Reid, set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
"(She was) loved by her coaches, fellow students, family and friends. She was so excited about turning 17 on Sept. 24," Reid said. "My family and I are grieving her tragic death. We are so appreciative for any donations to help pay for funeral home expenses and burial. I am deeply saddened by my daughter’s loss and wished it was just a bad dream. May Jayda Medrano Moore R.I.P."
According to her obituary, Jayda was a "humble, loving and kind young girl" who had a "bright future ahead of her with aspirations of becoming a WNBA player."
Learning about the first teen suspect’s arrest was a “bittersweet moment,” Jayda’s aunt Wendy Liriano told NBC Washington.
“We lost our star, Jayda. And for the other family, they lost their child as well, being that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars,” she said.
