Additional Cameras Installed In College Park To Enhance Residents' Safety

College Park officials will be installing an additional 15 security cameras to help enhance the safety of its residents.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Numerous security cameras have been added in College Park to enhance safety measures and another 15 security cameras will be mounted on new utility poles along the Trolley Trail.

The city has a contract with the University of Maryland Police Department to monitor 21 cameras around the Old Town neighborhood. City officials hope the additional cameras will ease safety concerns in the neighborhood, reports The Diamondback.

The city will maintain the new cameras through a cybersecurity vendor — Hitachi. The cameras will not be actively monitored, but this university’s police department will have access to them, the city added. The project is expected to cost more than $295,000.
