Allen Pond Park's Nature, Skating Are Nice

By most people's standards, Tuesday in Bowie would be described as a gloomy day.

With trepidation, I arrived at to shoot nature and ice arena photos—an opportunity to showcase the park. I nearly called my editor to switch ideas. I just didn't think it would work out with ugly clouds overhead.

There was some hope—I know enough about nature photography to know it is sometimes better to not have harsh sunlight casting shadows on leaves, flowers and trees. 

Few people were in the park today, but nature is nearly always available to us, even in the most suburban type of area.

I knew leaves are beginning to emerge from willow trees, but what I did not notice until today were tiny pink and white flowers blooming outside. They are gentle reminders to us that spring is on its way.

I certainly miss butterflies, plentiful flowers and strange-looking insects.

So, it is nice to share some images that show us warmer days are coming, along with a growing abundance of creatures, trees and plants.

Moving to this area from rural Texas makes me keenly aware of the need for green spaces, farms, places to walk unencumbered and nature in its fascinating forms.

Allen Pond Park is one such place that gives people a chance to rest, hear music, watch dancers, fish or walk a dog. The Bowie Ice Arena in the park is obviously enjoyed by people of all ages.

Parks are worth maintaining for future generations to enjoy and treasure. They add much to the quality of life for all the citizens of a town or city, no matter what they have or lack. 

They give much to all of us.
