Baysox Notebook: Bowie and Harrisburg Continue Back and Forth Battle for First Place
After losing both games of Sunday's doubleheader against New Britain, the Baysox now trail the Senators by one game for first place in the Eastern League's Western Division.

In what continues to be a see-saw battle for first place in the Eastern League’s Western Division, the Baysox fell to second place, one game back of Harrisburg, with losses to New Britain in both games of Sunday’s doubleheader. Bowie had overtaken Harrisburg for first place just one day earlier.
The Baysox (67-54) have a day off Monday before hitting the road for a six-game road trip, beginning with a three-game series with Richmond (64-56).

Hard-throwing right-handed pitcher Wynn Pelzer, who had excelled for Bowie after moving back to the bullpen, following a brief stint as a starter, has been transferred to Class-AAA Norfolk.
The 25-year old Pelzer, a former ninth-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres, was 5-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 29 appearances with the Baysox.

He tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his Norfolk debut Sunday. He issued a walk, but didn’t allow any hits and tallied two strikeouts.
Pelzer was acquired by the Orioles in exchange for Miguel Tejada in 2010.
DIAZ BACK IN BOWIE
After struggling mightily during a three month stint in Norfolk, right-handed reliever Jose Diaz is back with the Baysox, reassigned late last week.
Despite dominating the Eastern League for most of the early part of the season with Bowie, Diaz was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in 14 appearances with the Tides. In just 12 2/3 innings of work, Diaz yielded 10 runs (eight earned), 21 hits and eight walks. Opposing hitters batted .368 off of him.
Since being transferred, though, Diaz has tossed two scoreless outings for the Baysox, both coming in one inning of work during Bowie’s series with New Britain.
For the year, Diaz is 0-2 with a 1.37 ERA with the Baysox, racking up 31 strikeouts, along with just 10 walks, in 26 1/3 innings of work.
WARING NEARING RECORD
With his two-run home run in Saturday’s 8-5 win against New Britain, his 18th home run of the season, Bowie slugger Brandon Waring now sits just one home run away from tying Keith Reed for the most career home runs in Baysox history (42).
Waring hit 22 home runs for Bowie last season as well as one during a brief stint with the Baysox in 2009.
Reed , a first-round pick of the Orioles in 1999, played for Bowie from 2002-04.
