Bowie residents suffering from dental anxiety no longer need to fear having their pearly whites polished.

Superior Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, which opened in Bowie last fall, specializes in treating patients that suffer from mild to severe dental anxiety. Studies show that as many as 75 percent of American adults suffer from some form of dental anxiety, with 5 to 10 percent suffering from dental phobia.

To ease fear, dentists and siblings Ali Shatergholi and Melika Shatergholi offer several options for anxious patients, including nitrous oxide for nervous or even prescriptions for anti-anxiety medications for those experience more intense fear.

The family owned business also offers very gentle explanations and no judgment, said Brittany Baird, who runs the office at Superior Cosmetic & Family Dentistry. Baird said the “family feel” of the business extends to the patients of the business as well.
