Bowie Mom Claims Lottery Jackpot in Her Pajamas

The 41-year-old mother shouted for joy after discovering she'd won $50,000 with her Bonus Match 5 ticket.

BOWIE, MD — A Bowie woman was so excited to claim her $50,000 lottery prize that she drove to the nearest gas station in her pajamas to confirm her winning ticket.

The 41-year-old woman, who chose not to be identified, won $50,000 on her $6 Bonus Match 5 ticket. Her daughter heard her mother suddenly shout with joy on Saturday night when she saw that the ticket matched the winning numbers in the April 29 drawing, according to a statement from the Maryland Lottery.

“My mother came running down the stairs yelling, ‘I finally got them, we did it, we won!’” the daughter said, at first not having any clue what her mother was talking about.

But when she realized they won, they both headed out the door and got in the car -- still in their pajamas -- and drove to the nearest gas station to confirm their prize, according to the statement.

The mother and daughter will use the money to pay off bills and finance a trip to the Caribbean, which is where they are from.
