Bowie Plowing Update
Plowing will continue throughout the city until 10 p.m. Sunday and then the plow crews will be sent home for rest, officials said. They will resume their work at 6 a.m. Monday. Bowie’s primary roads are passable and 65 percent of secondary roads are now passable.
City leaders said on the Bowie website, “We know that work remains to be done on some streets and many cul-de-sacs throughout the city. We have also received your calls and seen your posts on social media about specific streets and are addressing them. In some cases, heavy equipment and large plows must be used to push or move the snow, which slows the plowing progress.”
Residents are responsible for clearing the sidewalk in front of their house.
How Residents Can Help
- Be patient. Plowing is slow work when the snow is this deep. Not all streets can be done by plow trucks. Some will require heavy equipment to get the job done.
- Don’t drive unless absolutely necessary. Conditions are still bad and many vehicles, even four-wheel drive ones, are getting stuck in the deep snow.
- Don’t shovel snow from your driveway into the street.
- Adopt a fire hydrant or storm drain near your home. Locate them, and clear around them.
- Check on the welfare of your elderly neighbors, and if you’re able, help them with shoveling.
