Bowie Softball Falls in Class 4A State Semis
Urbana rolls to 12-0 victory over Bowie High School.

Bowie rolled into Tuesday night’s Class 4A state semifinal with a 19-0 record, but the Bulldogs weren’t ready for powerful Urbana.
The Frederick County school jumped in front early and rolled to an easy 12-0 victory over Bowie at Bachman Park in Glen Burnie. The game was only five innings due to the 10-run rule.
According to The Frederick News-Post, Urbana (19-2) got some help from Bowie early on. The Bulldogs made four errors in the first inning and six overall to give the Hawks a big hand.

Those errors were why Urbana was able to score seven runs in the first, putting Bowie far behind before the Bulldogs even sent one batter to the plate. The Hawks had 12 batters come up in that inning, taking charge of the game.
The News-Post reported that Bowie simply couldn’t figure out Urbana pitcher Alexa Murphy, who gave up two hits and struck out seven.

Bowie now has made the state final four five times since 2003. The Bulldogs earned trips to the state final in 2003 and 2005 and now have lost in the state semifinals three times (2008, 2010, 2011).
For Urbana, this will be the team’s first trip to the state finals. The Hawks had lost in the state semifinals three times—2000, 2009, 2010—before winning here. They will play Chesapeake from Anne Arundel County in the Class 4A state title game.
