Bowiefest 2016: Rib-Eating Contest, Dean Crawford & the Dunn River Band, Rides and Food

Maryland's Top Country Band plays June 4 at Bowiefest, along with the GoGo Symphony and the WiseEyes Band from Bowie.

BOWIE, MD — Meet your neighbors, enjoy music, taste great local food and celebrate Bowie at the 39th annual Bowiefest. The annual celebration will be held on Saturday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Allen Pond Park, 3330 Northview Drive.

This year Bowiefest will feature Dean Crawford & the Dunn's River Band, who were nominated as the best country band in the state of Maryland. The band was also asked to perform at the Maryland Music Awards Ceremony. In addition, Dean won Maryland Songwriter of the Year.

The summer festival will feature rides, face painting, book giveaways, a puppet show, and a magician for the kiddies. There will also be a variety of great food offerings, such as pulled pork, corn dogs, cotton candy, and funnel cakes for festival-goers.

Bowiefest will also feature the Go-Go Symphony, a Go-Go band backed by a symphony orchestra. These two groups will perform on the Anne Arundel Medical Center Stage at the amphitheater.

On the Boathouse Stage you can find Bowie’s own WiseEyes Band performing folk rock, while the Earth, Wind and Fire cover band will have you grooving to some classic soul.

Texas Road House will sponsor its fifth annual rib-eating contest on the Anne Arundel Medical Center Stage at the Robert V. Setera Amphitheater lawn.

A third stage has been added in the children’s area with different performers including a puppet show and magician.

Bowiefest is a long-standing tradition in the city celebrating the best of Bowie’s civic organizations, entertainers, and businesses. Around the pond you can sample food from area vendors, including pit beef, Italian sausage, frozen fruit drinks, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Look for the arts and crafts area, sponsored by Soropomists, and the Home & Health Business Expo in the Ice Arena sponsored by the greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce.

Don’t miss the rib-eating contest, sponsored by Texas Road House.

Admission and parking are free. Shuttle buses will run every 20 minutes from the Park and Ride lot on Northview Drive between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
