After Bowie resident Bernice Samuels lost her fiance, James Watts, to Hodgekin’s Lymphoma in March 2013, she wanted to bring hope to others in similar situations, ABC7 News reports.
“I needed answers and the books I read were more like tutorials rather than guides,” Samuels told ABC7 News.

Along with her brother Matt, Samuels created the smartphone app “The Cancer Diaries.”
Users can read the personal stories, view photos, interact via social media, and leave comments to the authors.
Launched in September, “The Cancer Diaries” has had over 2,000 downloads so far, according to ABC7 News.
The authors continue to raise funds and support through the Cancer Plus 1 kickstart campaign.
