Coffee Shop Shooting Victim Identified, Prince George's Police Continue Investigation

Detectives continue investigating the shooting of a man in a Starbucks who approached an armored truck company employee conducting business.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Officials have released the name of the individual who was shot by an armored truck company employee inside the Starbucks located in the 3400 block of Donnell Drive in Forestville last week.

Jonathan Griffin, 35, of Upper Marlboro was fatally shot July 19 at approximately 2 p.m. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed an employee of an armored truck company was inside the store conducting financial business behind the counter. Griffin went behind the counter and walked toward the armored truck company employee who then fatally shot Griffin. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The incident was captured on security camera, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

Prince George's County Police Department Acting Deputy Police Chief Zachary O'Lare spoke at a news conference outside the business after the shooting. O'Lare noted that the investigation is in the beginning stages and he didn't have much information he could release at that time.
