Cop Involved In Fatal Crash In PG County: Police

A Maryland Park Police Officer is recovering after a deadly crash in Prince George's County last weekend, police say.

OXON HILL, MD -- A police officer was injured in a fatal accident in Oxon Hill last weekend.

Maryland Park Police said in a statement that one of its officers was involved in a crash that happened in the 6100 block of Oxon Hill Road at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.

The officer, a four-year veteran of the department assigned to the patrol division, is recovering from injuries that are not life-threatening, police say. He was off-duty at the time.

The Washington Post identified the deceased as 47-year-old Jason Haftl of Pennsylvania. He made a left turn into the path of the officer, who was off-duty but driving a marked SUV, according to the report. Police did not identify the officer.

The Prince George’s County Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit (CARU) will be handling the investigation, the statement notes.
