Lt. Hubert Harrison, 63, finished his shift working fire dispatch in Towson at 4 a.m. Sunday and was on his way home to Bowie when his 2014 Honda Gold Wing collided with another motorcycle in Prince George’s County, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.
Both drivers died in the crash, which occurred at about 4:40 a.m. in the 11500 block of Laurel-Bowie Road, the report said.
Harrison had been with the Baltimore County Fire Department for almost 29 years, having been promoted to paramedic/firefighter in 2004 and lieutenant in 2009, according to the report.
Most recently, he was working on fire dispatch, assigning equipment and personnel to emergency calls, authorities reported.
“This is a terrible loss for the Fire Department and an even greater tragedy for Lt. Harrison’s family,” Baltimore County Fire Chief John Hohman said in a statement. “We offer heartfelt condolences to his wife and loved ones, and will offer all the support we can in the difficult days ahead.”
The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the collision.
Prince George’s police said that one motorcyclist was heading north on MD 197 and another was headed south when for an unknown reason, the driver in the northbound lane crossed over and hit the southbound motorcyclist head on.
