Morningside Volunteer firefighter Kevin Swain, 19, was treated at Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for four gunshot wounds. He was released from the hospital over the weekend to continue his recovery.
The Temple Hills resident reportedly thought his home was being broken into when he shot Ulmschneider, Swain and a relative trying to check on his welfare.
Ulmschneider is survived by his wife, Dawn, and their 2-year-old daughter, Abigail.
Friday’s event will also recognize Swain and two other volunteer firefighters from the Morningside department who were hurt as they drug the two shooting victims out of harm’s way.
Both the Ulmschneider and Swain families, the entire Fire/EMS Department, family and friends, and the public are invited to attend.
Attire is the “uniform of the day” or casual, as appropriate, organizers said.
Attendees may park in the rear of the Cranford/Graves Fire Services Building, rear parking lot of Landover Hills Fire/EMS Station 830, and on the street.
