Grandma From El Salvador Killed While In Hyattsville For Grandson's Funeral: Police
A 62-year-old grandmother from El Salvador was fatally shot in Hyattsville while in town for her grandson's funeral, police report.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 62-year-old grandmother from El Salvador who was in Capitol Heights for her grandson's funeral was fatally shot March 28 shortly after 9 p.m. The grandson, 25-year-old Moises Martinez, was killed March 22 in a car crash.
Patricia Carrillo, the victim’s daughter, told WSAZ her mother Lidia Chinchilla de Carrillo had been in town for one day before she was killed.
“She wanted to stay with her family and support me,” Patricia Carrillo said.

According to the family, the grandmother was shot inside a car in the 600 block of Drum Avenue as she was entering the neighborhood. Patricia Carrillo said she thought her mother was having a diabetic crash after hearing five gunshots. But then her husband saw two bullet holes in the passenger seat, WSAZ reported. Lidia Chinchilla de Carrillo died a short time later at an area hospital.
A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. If anyone has information relevant to this investigation, they are asked to call detectives at 301-516-2512.
