Greenbelt Station Open; Repairs Made to Green Line Tracks

Sections of a concrete walkway fell onto the tracks between College Park and Greenbelt on Wednesday, but the line is again open.

Metro crews worked through the night to repairs to the Green Line tracks damaged when a pedestrian bridge collapsed on them and full service has been restored, officials said Thursday morning.

Greenbelt Station reopened early Thursday morning and no delays are expected as a result of the accident, according to a news release.

The collapse happened Wednesday between College Park and Greenbelt stations, disrupting service through rush hour and the evening.

A portion of the concrete bridge fell onto the Green Line tracks in the 5100 block of Berwyn Road shortly before 3 p.m. today after being hit by the boom of a rail crane operated by a Metro contractor, according to a news release.

The contractor, Skanska, was performing work to support the construction of a new track.

There were no injuries reported, Prince George’s County emergency officials said.
