Huge New Aquatic and Recreation Complex Coming to Brandywine

PG County officials broke ground on the project on Monday.

BRANDYWINE, MD — The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation held a groundbreaking ceremony for a brand new aquatics and recreation complex in Brandywine on Monday, and the new facility will span 65 acres with 77,000 square feet of building space.

Officials broke ground on the new Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex (SAARC) at the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Brandywine Road.

The complex has been in the works since 2013, and now construction officially can begin on the project, according to a statement from the county.

The new facility will include indoor aquatic space, a gymnasium, a fitness room and "flexible programmable space." It is being built on a property owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
