Loaded Ghost Gun Taken To School By 13-Year-Old Prince George's County Student

A 13-year-old middle school student faces several charges after police say he took a loaded gun to school and hid it in his waistband.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A middle school student faces several charges after police say he brought a loaded handgun to school.

The Prince George's County Police Department took the 13-year-old student into custody Tuesday at Isaac J. Gourdine Middle School in Fort Washington.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., the PGPD arrived at the school for the report of a student with a gun. Officers found the student in a classroom with a non-serialized ghost gun tucked into his waistband. No one was injured.

A preliminary investigation revealed the 13-year-old student showed the weapon to other students and one of them reported it.

Edward Burroughs III, Prince George's County Council member for District 8, said that weapons in our schools "is a problem for all of us."

"The safety and security of our children, and entire school community are top priorities, and we encourage parents and guardians to continue to engage in conversations with their children about the role they play in school safety," Burroughs III said. "I am thankful for how the situation was handled yesterday and for the students, school personnel and authorities who spoke up and acted to ensure no one was hurt."
