Fort Washington Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Son, Wife: Prince George's Police
A man has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of his wife and son, as well as the non-fatal shooting of a neighbor, police say.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 62-year-old Fort Washington man has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of his wife and son in their home. A neighbor was wounded in the incident.
On Aug. 31 around 5:45 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Tall Timber Court for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, the suspect, Michael Kevin Burch, refused to exit his home, prompting a barricade to be called. For several hours, the emergency services team and Prince George's County Police Department negotiators attempted to communicate with Burch but were unsuccessful, the department reported.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., EST officers entered the home and took Burch into custody without incident. Rori Burch, 52, was found in the yard dead. A son, Michael Burch, Jr. , 25, was found dead inside the home. A preliminary investigation revealed the surviving victim is a neighbor who had gone to the home to offer help after Burch shot his wife. Burch also shot the neighbor when the neighbor knocked on the front door, the police department reported.
