Man Sentenced For Involvement In Gang-Related Shooting: Prince George's Prosecution

A man has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in a gang-related shooting, according to State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A gang-related shooting between two rivals has led to prison time for one man.

Amos Reffell has been sentenced to 55 years in prison on numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder for a shooting that was the result of a rivalry among neighborhood crews. The victim sustained critical gunshot wounds to his head and feet, while the incident also resulted in multiple apartments being damaged by bullet holes, according to court documents.

The investigation into the 2022 incident revealed that this shooting was between the 28th Street and 23rd Street Crews in Temple Hills. Reffell and three others opened fire on two victims as they were getting out of an Uber in June 2022 in the 3400 block of Brinkley Road. The shooters used AR-15 assault rifles, a Glock 23 handgun and other weapons in the attack. They then fled down St. Garnabas Road in a Dodge Charger. The vehicle crashed at the intersection of St. Barnabas and Stamp Road. The suspects fled on foot, but officers were able to apprehend Reffell, the prosecution stated.

The investigation to locate the other three suspects continues. The shooting victim as well as several victims from the vehicles that were struck by the vehicle Reffell was operating, were taken to the hospital.

"This sentence sends a message of our community's intolerance for violence," emphasized State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy. "The destructive rivalries among crews or any other groups must cease. Fortunately, we avoided a more tragic outcome in this case and thankfully, the victims who were exiting an Uber at the time, escaped life-altering injuries, although one required hospitalizations."
