May Fun In Bowie: Farmers' Market, Summer Concert Series
Bowie residents will want to make a note of the fun activities being offered this month, including the market, parade and Heritage Days.
BOWIE, MD – The month of May offers a host of exciting events and activities for Bowie residents of all ages. From concerts to special events to the much-anticipated farmers’ market, residents will want to make note of this month’s list of happenings.
The Bowie Farmers’ Market will kick off on Sunday, May 19, at 8 a.m. The market runs until noon. Shoppers will enjoy choosing from among locally grown product, fruit, cut flowers and plants, as well as homemade goodies such as breads, pastries, jams and jellies. The market will be held in the parking lot of the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts at Bowie High School, 15200 Annapolis Rd., every Sunday through Oct. 27.
Bowie’s Sunday Sunset concert series is held every Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. through Labor Day weekend. In the event of uncooperative weather, concerts will be canceled. Concerts are held at the Robert V. Setera Amphitheater at Allen Pond Park. Upcoming performers include the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, Benfield Pops Symphony Band, The Electric Company, U.S. Army Blues and the Bowie State University Concert Band.

Heritage Day will be held Sunday, May 19, from noon to 4 p.m. at Belair Mansion, Belair Stable, Bowie Railroad Museum and the Genealogy Library. Activities that day include musical performances by Durham Station, pony rides, face painting, games, tiny tike races, sachet making, and a lesson in tracing your own family roots.
The annual Memorial Day parade will be held Saturday, May 25. The parade route begins at the Bowie High School Annex at 11 a.m. and winds along Belair Drive to Sussex Lane, then on to Stonybrook Drive to Sage Lane.
